Asphalt shingles are available in a variety of options with many textures and colors to choose from. Asphalt shingles are durable and easy to maintain, making them the most commonly used roofing material on the market. Asphalt shingles can be manufactured to look like cedar shakes, tile, or slate for a more sophisticated look, while retaining the performance of asphalt roof shingles. The life expectancy of the shingles will be determined by many factors such as: environment, climate, attic ventilation, and the slope of the roof.
Cedar Shakes & Shingles
A cedar shake roof will be as durable as it is beautiful. Real Western Red Cedar is the original green choice and the only truly renewable roofing material. Cedar lasts at least 10 years longer than common roofing materials like asphalt, and is resistant to strong winds, heavy rains and hail. Top quality roofing, like cedar wood, comes with a higher price but the longevity of cedar wood roofing provides a higher return on investment.
Slate has withstood the test of time and can be seen on some of the world’s oldest buildings. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing, but other roofing materials pale in comparison to the longevity of natural Slate that has a lifespan of 75 years.
Roofing tiles are available in clay and concrete, vary in shape, and are available in a range of color tones. Tile roofs are designed to endure high temperatures and withstand strong winds. Roof tiles are safety tested and have earned a Class “A” Fire Retardant rating.
Synthetic roofing materials resemble the look of slate, tile, cedar shakes or shingles but are more budget friendly due to installation time.
A high-quality metal roof will endure the harshest weather conditions. It will hold up against heavy snow loads and prevent the build-up of ice on a roof’s surface. Due to its resistance to shrinkage, erosion and cracking a metal roof will outlast the service life of most other roofs. Metal roofs are also reusable and made from recyclable materials.
